This type of transportation cannot be guaran- teed. First, your doctor has to fill out a form that shows you meet certain medical needs. You can have this form faxed to your doctor if you call HPSJ Customer Service at 209.942.6305 or 888.936.7526. Once your doctor returns the form, HPSJ can give you a list of transportation numbers you can call for a ride to all of your medical appointments. It would be best to give us at least 7 to 10 days’ notice before you need this type of ride so that you do not miss your appointment. A drug list is a list of medica- tions (meds) your doctor can use that will be covered by Medi-Cal. It lists safe and help- ful meds that offer the best value without sacrificing quality of care. Already had COVID-19? You should still get boosted You planned to get COVID-19 booster shots, but then you got a breakthrough case of the virus. You might wonder: “Should I still get boosted now that I likely have some natural immunity?” The answer is yes. You should still get a booster shot—but perhaps not right away. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends booster shots for everyone who is eligible, including people who’ve already had COVID-19. But if you are still sick with the virus, you should wait until you have recovered and ended your isolation period. That’s at least five days. After that, you can get your booster shot (or your initial series of COVID-19 shots, if you still haven’t done so but want to). Here’s why it’s important to stay up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccines: It may help you avoid a second infection. You can get COVID-19 more than once. But staying up-to-date on your shots may make you less likely to get COVID-19 again. And the vaccines can help prevent serious illness if you do get sick. Vaccination is the best protection. Compared to natural immunity, COVID-19 vaccines help your body make more antibodies and offer longer- lasting protection, CDC reports. If you’ve had COVID-19 and recovered, you can get your booster shot as soon as you’re done isolating. But waiting three months might make it more effective. Studies show that waiting that long after your positive COVID-19 test Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported— ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone can have mild to severe symptoms. Possible symptoms include: ● Fever or chills ● Cough ● Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing ● Fatigue ● Muscle or body aches ● Headache ● New loss of taste or smell ● Sore throat ● Congestion or runny nose ● Nausea or vomiting ● Diarrhea (or the start of your symptoms) may increase your immune response to the vaccine. But you should take your personal risk into account before deciding whether to wait, CDC advises. For instance, it may not be a good idea to wait to get a booster if: ● You have underlying health conditions. ● The virus is surging in your community. 4 Focus Your Health

Tortilla soup This soup tastes just as good or better the next day. It’s a perfect, make-ahead recipe. Makes 4 servings (2 cups per serving). INGREDIENTS Nonstick cooking spray 1½ cups chopped onion 3½ cups canned reduced sodium chicken broth 1¼ pounds bone-in chicken breasts, skin removed 1 cup diced, peeled chayote squash ¾ cup canned low-sodium pinto beans, rinsed and drained 1 tablespoon chili powder ½ teaspoon garlic powder 4 (6-inch) corn tortillas, cut into strips, baked until crisp Sesame chicken with peppers and snow peas Ginger and sesame add an Asian flare to this dish. Makes 4 servings (1¼ cups per serving). INGREDIENTS Nonstick cooking spray 1 tablespoon sesame seeds 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips 2 cups snow peas, trimmed 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce 2 tablespoons water 1½ teaspoons packed brown sugar ¼ teaspoon ground ginger 2 green onions, sliced 2 cups cooked brown rice PREPARATION ● Place sesame seeds in a large nonstick skillet; cook for 2 minutes over medium-high heat until lightly browned. Remove from skillet and set aside. ● Spray same skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Add chicken; cook and stir for about 10 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked. ● Add snow peas and bell peppers; stir fry for 3 to 4 minutes more, until vegetables are crisp-tender. ● In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, water, brown sugar and ginger; add to skillet. Cook for 5 minutes over medium-high heat. ● Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve ¾ cup of chicken mixture over ½ cup of brown rice. 1 avocado, peeled, pitted, and sliced PREPARATION ● Spray a large saucepan with nonstick cooking spray. Add onion and cook over mediumhigh heat for 5 minutes to brown, stirring occasionally. ● Add broth and cover saucepan; increase heat to high. When broth starts to boil, add chicken, squash, beans, chili powder and garlic powder. ● Bring to a boil again; lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes. ● Remove chicken from soup and let cool slightly. Shred into small pieces. Add shredded chicken back to soup. ● Pour soup into bowls and top with tortilla pieces and avocado. Serve immediately. Focus Your Health 5
