Pharmacy benefit changes: What you need to know Taking care of yourself and making healthy choices can help protect you and your family. Knowing your risks, knowing your family’s health his- tory and getting routine exams is a vital part of staying healthy. Here are some tips on women’s health: 1 Get to know your risks for heart disease. Heart disease strikes nearly 1 in 3 women during their lifetime. Some things can make you more likely to get heart disease, which sets the stage for heart attacks. Talk to your doctor about your risks. 2 Get a mammogram. A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of getting breast cancer in her lifetime. Getting a yearly mammogram can help find problems early, and you can also get a $25 gift card for completing a mammogram. Call your doctor to get started. 3 Get a Pap smear. You can find cervical cancer by getting screened often. All women who are sexually active should get a Pap smear. You can get a $25 gift card for completing a Pap smear. Talk to your doctor to learn what is right for you. 4 Get the HPV vaccine. Most girls should get it when they are 11 to 12 years old. But if you did not, you can get a catch-up vaccine up to age 26. If you are 27 to 45, ask your doctor if the vaccine is right for you. 5 Get screened for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Once you are sexually active, it is recommended that you visit the doctor for STIs, HIV and cervical cancer screening (Pap smear). You can also talk to your doctor about birth control options. 6 Get early prenatal care. Regu- lar prenatal visits can help you monitor your pregnancy and find problems before they become serious. Visit your doctor within three months (12 weeks) of becom- ing pregnant and you can get a $25 gift card. To learn about HPSJ’s myRewards program, you can visit hpsj.com/ myrewards .
